Welcome to Episode 29 of Perfectly Pl@nted. Today we share our thoughts on another amazing book by Dr. Rangan Chatterjee, “Happy Mind, Happy Life”.

Dr. Rangan Chatterjee is a British physician, author, television presenter and podcaster. He is best known for his TV show Doctor in the House and for being the resident doctor on BBC Breakfast. Dr. Chatterjee has practiced medicine for over 20 years and is an international leader in Lifestyle Medicine. Dr. Chatterjee has authored five books (I recommend them all!):

  • The 4 Pillar Plan

  • The Stress Solution

  • Feel Better in 5

  • Feel Great Lose Weight

  • Happy Mind, Happy Life: 10 Simple Ways to Feel Great Every Day

We couldn't discuss all ten topics Dr. Chatterjee covers in the book. Today we discussed several topics:

  • The concept of Core Happiness as a three-legged stool

  • Treating yourself with respect

  • Treating your phone like a person

  • How to go on holiday every day

Dr. Chatterjee describes Core Happiness as a 3-legged stool. The three legs of the stool are Contentment, Alignment, and Control. Each of these ‘

"legs" provide the core foundation for happiness. In the book, Dr. Chatterjee talks about the importance of each leg of the stool and why we need to understand that core happiness is within each of us.

Contentment - being at peace with your life and your decisions

Alignment - showing up as who you are and not hiding your core values or beliefs. The person you want to be and who you are is the person who shows up every day to the outside world. Control - this one is tough. Being in control means “feeling that nothing, within reason, has the power to overwhelm you.” It does not mean that you are in control of everything.

What is important to share is that Core Happiness is not a destination but a journey. Some days your stool may not be stable, but this book provides you with tools you can use to make the legs of the stool stronger. More resilient.

Are you intrigued? I hope so. We enjoyed reading the book and provided some open thoughts on all the topics above. We hope you enjoy the replay. Please share your thoughts in the comments below.

Until next time, be well.
